A prerequisite for any successful candidate beyond their personal work ethic, sociability and presentation is that they successfully complete Johnston's Coachlines three step "Driver School". Upon successful completion of the "Driver School" candidates will be guaranteed a full-time position with the company.

The Johnston's Coachlines Driver School

The Johnston's Coachlines Driver School operates a three step process and operates out of each of our bases in Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown.

Step One:

  • Attainment of Passenger Endorsement License
  • Defensive and hazard identification driver training
  • Completion of First Aid Certificate
  • NZQA unit standards achieved
  • OUTCOME:
    • Fully licensed to operate.
    • Recognised as proficient as a Johnston's Coachlines driver

Step Two:

  • Customer service training
  • Tour manager/escort training
  • Tour commentary training
  • Advance driver techniques training and proficiency test
  • Route familiarisation training
  • OUTCOME:
    • Full employment by Johnston's Coachlines

Step Three:

  • Two Island operating proficiency training
  • Achievement of the National Certificate in Passenger Service
  • Achievement of the National Certificate in Tour Leadership
  • OUTCOME:
    • Accredited to drive for Johnston's Coachlines in both the North and South Islands.
