The Johnstons TeamJohnston's has over 80 years experience in the tourism transport industry. A privately owned company with the principal shareholders being a family group who own and operate a number of other businesses throughout New Zealand. The company's Managing Director, Philip Manning has many years of experience in the bus and coach business.

Johnston's Coachlines prides itself on its leadership role in New Zealand's bus and coach industry through it's commitment over the years to operating an exceptionally well maintained, modern, state of the art fleet and through it's rigorous driver recruitment and training programme which is second to none.

The main aspects of Johnston's committment to safety includes:

  • 100% of the coaching fleet is fully seat belted
  • Kneeling suspension lowers coach to kerbside for easy access
  • Comprehensive preventative maintenance programme supported by a nationwide network providing 7 days, 24 hour coverage
  • Reputable brand chassis suppliers used: Volvo, Scania and MAN
  • All 5 star coaches are ABS braked
  • All coaches three years and younger feature traction control
  • All vehicles are equipped with first aid equipment and emergency communications capability
  • Defensive and hazardous driver training and certification for all Johnston's Coachlines drivers
  • Special driver accreditation for the Milford Road and snow and ice operating conditions

Environmental Best Practice

Johnston's Coachlines has taken the lead in meeting tough new exhaust emission standards set by Vehicle Testing New Zealand (VTNZ) by volunteering our coaches to be regularly tested by their independent testers.

Annual emission testing by VTNZ will ensure that vehicle engines are kept at peak efficiency with minimal harmful exhaust emissions.

Johnston's has recently achieved Qualmark's Enviro-Silver rating.  This rating is given to companies which are able to demonstrate credible and visible practices to reduce their environmental impact and improve their environmental management.  Our practices range from purchasing the latest fleet featuring Euro-5 emissions technology right through to implementing a recycling programme at our depots.  Johnston's Coachlines understands that the future of its business depends on the protection of New Zealand's natural beauty.  We are not just talking about it - we are taking responsibility for New Zealand's and our future.
